Not sure if this has been covered here ( or even right section ) about gas bottle rental, but I found out about this a couple of months ago and have changed myself. ( I just copied and pasted my reply from elsewhere )

Worth noting about the Volkzone deal with BOC

It effectively halves the price of gas and rental.

This makes it far far more attractive than the Hobbyweld stuff

I actually cancelled my MIG bottle with BOC in favour of Hobbyweld before I heard about this. If I'd known, I wouldnt have went with Hobbyweld

I've switched my pure Argon to the Volkzone deal. Circa £65 a year rental on the size Y and approx £40 refill.
That's the 4-5ft fat bottle.

In this bottle there is probably about 7x the amount of gas as in a Hobbyweld bottle

The Volkzone deal should be available through any BOC agent, just ask about it.

Worth changing if you're paying full whack !

for me i dont pay a rental, i payed a £50 refundable deposit on both cylinders and then just refills / exchange as needed
6kg co2 is £10
10l argon @200 bar is £35

the argon worked out more expensive than i thought but havnt found anywhere cheaper yet ( i dunno is that the going rate)
the price on that huge cylinder is tempting and id love a huge cylinder but i need to be able to move it easily

I've been using this offer for a while. It's not the 5ft cylinder, it's the middle one. Still a very good deal though.

My estimations are maybe a bit off... Probably 4 feet at most.

It isnt the massive bottle, but isnt the small skinny bottle.

It's the small fat bottle.

I may have to look into this. I've used BOC for years, but its bloody expensive and they're never open after normal working hours which made it difficult swapping cylinders. I've recently changed to hobby weld and pay £50 a refill on a small bottle, and can easily get through one in a day, which works out expensive too!

Matty the rent free jobs are filled to different pressures depending on supplier

I think rule of thumb is if you weld alot then rental is the way to go otherwise rent free is cheaper, i go though 1.5 rent free bottle a year for me thats still cheaper than the volkszone deal

Is Hobbyweld not a standard size ? Over here it's £30 for a bottle, but there really isnt a lot in them

It's a few inches shorter than the BOC size Y, but much thinner and only filled to 100bar.

Well HW5 I use for the MIG is £30, I think HW pure Argon is £39
