I have a small k&n from a corsa. The foam filters are supposed to be terrible at filtering. In the 13's at last!.. Just |

My mistake for thinking they were popular! Then again, I haven't purchased an air filter in over 2 years... |

I've heard good things about Green filters and they do various size cylinder filters. I've used Pipercross in the past and they might sound lairy but clog up quickly so feck up the air/fuel mix Masturbation is not a crime its a hobby |

My car has never been run without a filter. Belt shredding incidents are quite messy though

Your not helping brett ! i had pictures of one that peeled away from the inside and eventually lost its shape and was introduced at about the speed of sound to a compressor wheel doing 1/4million rpm and that was an hks mushroom ( not my turbo) but the same type that i run on the skyline lol
afew years back a couple off supra guys bought every filter on the market to settle the age old argument that goes on amongst the mkivsupra lot i have lost the link and have tryed to find it to with limited success (http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/ ) but essentially the worst for filtration was the foam ones with the HKS one being amongst the worst i would avoid a foam filter as much as possible, that said i have to 2 layer foam on the skyline :) Yes i moved to the darkside |

The k&ns need to be oiled correctly and once there's a little bit of crap on it they work very well. If the car is used infrequently and you don't mind rebuilding it a bit more than one with a good filter on then just bung a pipercross on. They're not too bad, Think endaf runs one on his kad 16v spaceframe. On 26th Jan, 2012 Tom Fenton said:

K&N needs to be specifically selected for the application. Naturaly aspirated filters are different from forced induction filters. If you use a naturally aspirated filter on forced induction it will let shit through. Its all to do with the way the k&n filters work.

Also, just because something is different from the norm doesn't mean it's any good either lol Very true on both counts! I remember seeing a fair few build threads from a couple of years ago with the ITG moulded dome filters on and assumed that was the filter of choice. Saying that though, I have yet to research filters for my own build so this thread should help me no end! |

That is a handy article, not just on how well they performed but also on how well they filtered. Wouldn't catch me putting a HKS filter on anything any time soon!

My car once stopped boosting. Pulled the bonnet to find that the foam air filter had disappeared.
