Mainshaft looks ok,

layshaft, the important bit is the bearing surface, maybe clean it up with a bit of fine emery as hard to tell with the crud.

Edit, as long as there's not pitting or corrosion on all bearings surfaces you should be fine if they clean up.

Layshaft needs replacing, reverse shaft may be ok. Mainshaft looks ok on the centre bearings, but couldn't really see what the 1st motion needle roller face looks like on the end...looks a bit blackened?

Your better off with thinners/brake cleaner and scotchbrite.

You haven't taken a picture of the most important bit on the main shaft. The little end inside the 1st motion shaft. Looks rough. Looks scrap.

to check for surface hardness where is the best place? clearly not where a bearing runs. .
middle? end?
asking as ill be using new main and lay and dont want the hassle of a shit one

already had problems with it not being ground to size it had a taper on the bearing surfaces !!

Not sure if it's only discolouring, but if it's pitted, even the slightest bit, it's scrap.
