i now the final drives arnt the same on gearboxes but are there any differenses of the number of teeth on each cog say a 1098 compaired to a 1275 box cheers "Can I legally marry people now that I am ordained in the Church of the SubGenius?" aka i know jack sh"t

The 1098 was only made for one year on an A+, and as the preA+ had different ratios than the A+ 1275 unit (that I assume you are comparing to) aswell as a different tooth form - it is unlikely you could 'mix and match'.
