I'm collecting bits for my turbo build and looking for a good s/h turbo.

I want something fast spooling at lower revs (to pull mpi diff), with good economy. Was thinking GT15 but was advised GT17 would be better for economy as it won't strangle the exhaust gases as much.

I understand there are different A/R values for the same model of turbo. Which one should I be looking for?

I've found a Saab 9-5 turbo which has GT17 M53 .53 stamped onto it. I've also seen others that have GT17 M53 .47 stamped in.

I'm not too worried about orientation of the boost outlet as I'm told the turbo can be "clocked", or failing that there is an alloy welding shop near me that said they can cut/weld the outlet at an angle quite cheap if need be.

Just to add - I've found the GT17 M53 .53 is a 5955703 from the 2.0/2/3 4 cylinder 9-5.

I've also found some which are GT1752 and GT1752S from petrol models, and some GT1749MV from diesel models.

As long as it's off the 2.0 or 2.3 petrol non aero models, it's okay to use mate

You really want a GT1752.

Found references for the 5955703 being a GT1752 so I've gone for it! Couldn't find the difference between a GT1752 and a GT1752S though...
