One of my pet hates are wiggly brake lines, they look terrible. However up till now it's been a tedious job to say the least straightening the pipe off the roll 4" at a time using my bench vice. I had previously considered making some kind of roller straightener but that's as far as I ever got.
Until I came across this the other day;

Now like many of us I love buying tools so it was a foregone conclusion. Ordered in the week it arrived Friday so I rushed out to the garage to try it.
Only one word, MEGA!
Roughly straighten by hand one end of the coil just to allow you to feed it in the tool. Then run the tool back and forth a few times and hey presto, perfectly straight brake pipe ready for careful bending with a bending tool to shape.
Cost just over £40 direct from the manufacturers but having looked around it can be bought slightly cheaper elsewhere.
Highly recommended by me!

Just to add , it comes in different sizes for different pipe both metric and imperial. Obviously for brake pipe you want 3/16".

That's a good tool, but it's a bit pricy at £40, but I know what you mean about squiggly pipes, they look turd.

Could you make one for £40? Taking into account my time, I couldn't !!

I suppose if you happen to have stuff lying around to make a tool like some have, it's okay, but if you had to go out of your way to make one and then build the thing you probably are best off buying one as you say.

I think £40 is a bargain if, like me, you want things to look 'right'. I've spent hours, and got increasingly frustrated, by brake and fuel lines and would've welcomed this.
Some sort of adjustable one or a kit would be even better!

Graeme, that's exactly why I bought it, I'm restoring my 205 GTI and want the brake lines to look "factory" standard.

Speaking of 205s - have you taken 2nd semi-expert in one on the G&P Memorial?

Hoped to get out to marshal, but failed miserably.
Good result - there's some top local crews in the top 10

Thanks, we are quite happy with how we did, I'd not navigated for that driver or on those maps before so had no local knowledge whatsoever, which as I'm sure you know is a big advantage. Had a good run with only a 30sec detour coming out of a farmyard then dropped about 4 min with a wrong slot whilst going across from one map to the next. Bagged all the code boards which looked to have caught a few out, and kept it on the black stuff, so all in all a decent run.

I want one, but as im only likely to use it on one build, so for this reason, Ill do the stuggle. It does look a useful bit of kit for someone who will use it often, or wants a super squeeky look.

I think one of these will be on my wanted list now. As for price, while it is expensive for a tool that is not going to be used much, it will probably be one of those tools worth its weight in gold

I should update. I've used this loads already! Lisa's BINI needed a pair if brake pipes recently for it's test, out came the straightening tool! If you make brake pipes fairly regularly you NEED one of these!
