Hi

Thought I'd start a proper project thread now things are well on their way :).

So I've had a gt17 sat in my garage for about 4 years, along with a matty manifold, and a couple of other bits and bobs... I realised at the time it was a lot of work, so decided to go T3 for a while, then to upgrade to the 17 at a later date.

I sourced all the bits, built the engine with cast omegas, straight cut drops, x pin diff, turbo phil head, med T3 cam, vernier etc, and a standard T3 + intercooler. Had it on the road for a few months, covered around 1k miles, then had a nasty engine failure, so decided to do it again properly and go down the gt route.

So I sent the head to turbo phil for some repair work, which he did a fantastic job of, thanks phil :).

Decided to get the gearbox rebuilt with a straight cut gearset as this was my previous worry before. So a trip to the Benross HQ left me with a few options, in which I decided to have steve fully rebuild the gearbox, and build a descent spec 1293 short engine capable of pushing some nice power :).

Only a couple of weeks later I was collecting the built engine and gearbox, which looks fantastic, thanks Steve!

Things really started coming together then. Matty did a great job of the downpipe, which also arrived in super quick time, thanks Matt!

In the meantime I started mocking up the turbo and manifolds etc, sorting coolant feeds etc etc.

It's now sat in the garage with the head slotted on while I sort a few issues with the oil drain and coolant pipes etc.

Anyway enough talking, here are a few pics of the last few weeks...

Uprated the fuel pump and rewired it.

Repainted the head to match the block. Thanks for the paint steve!

Bought and fitted an aem wideband kit and new boost gauge. Liked the boost gauge so much I decided to rip out the other gauges and buy all new matching :)

New matching gauges. Peak recall feature and programmable warnings etc.

Mocking up etc...

Heat shield made up

Just waiting for the engine pics to upload to photobucket :)

That's looking great! It doesn't look like you have much left to do now?

It's been a while since I've seen on of the high flow manifolds!

Thanks :). Not much at all. Waiting for a few bits to arrive (speedo drive, throttle cable, clutch, couple of gaskets etc), and got to sort the oil drain which I'm struggling with a bit.

Did you have any clearance issues with the high flow manifolds? The turbo is fouling on the block above the fuel pump blank. Can't clock the housing as much as I want due to it touching the block. May need to grind the block and turbo a bit. Manifold is great though, love it!

Lovely tidy job, but is that water feed and return for the turbo going to work, do you think ?

It looks as if the feed is coming off the back of the head which is probably a pretty hot area - and I suspect the flow will not be great.

Wow this is one nice build, I like the way you've hidden the inter cooler infront of the grill

Looks good, other than the horrid intercooler position. Is there no way of getting it under the bonnet?

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Horrid position? It's my mini and that's how I like it, hence why it's there. I don't want it under the bonnet.

Tadge, as for the cooling, I know others have plumbed them in this way, so I'm going to give it a go :)
