I'm fitting EFI to the old mans clubby estate, do you think I could get away with using a T piece and not welding a return line into the tank? I was planning on fitting a small swirl pot in the boot, as I guess the estate tank will suffer from fuel surge a lot??

Jim, the long wheel base fuel tank is really bad with surge anything bellow half full, you really do need a swirl pot. There is no getting away from it.

Easiest option is to tell the old man never to let the tank run lower than half, or better still, get him to drive like yer granny *wink*

I thought the " T piece trick " was between the carb and plenum... I was trying to figure out what you were planning before I opened this post lol

What you suggest will be fine. Just make sure you get the regulator in the right place.

On EFI I've always returned to the tank. When I used a van tank I added a swirl pot and a lifter pump.

I will fit a swirl pot and a lifter pump, but the return line from the swirl pot I was going to put into a T between the tank and the lifter pump.

How small a swirl pot do you think I could get away with? pint glass sized thing? This is for my dads daily driver, don't want the boot looking like a WRC rally car

Jim, could you not make a swirl pot that fits in the gap behind the wheel arch, then make a neat panel to hide it from sight, so its in the boot but can't be seen? Or perhaps squeeze something in under the spare wheel cover board?

If you use a SU or Facet type pump between the tank and the swirl pot, then there is no need for a return.

There needs to be a return off the top of the swirl pot otherwise it will have a vapour space and pressurise?..............

Does the swirl pot need to be higher than the tank? Can it not be fitted under the car on the rear subframe. Id personally try and keep as much of the fuel system out if the cabin space as possible

Pressure would only be what the lift pump delivers, usually pretty low.

Air or vapour could be a problem though. How about using a ball valve to let the air out?
