Hi all I'm hoping to start assembling my gearbox, but wondering how much tolerance (play) is acceptable between the synchro hub and the main shaft? Just wondering if anyone has any experience of new parts and if these were actually a tight fit from the factory or if there was always a bit if play from new.

I have a small amount of play, but looking at the cost of a new mainshaft they are a bit prohibitive for my budget!!

Thanks

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I guess you mean on the splines? If so some play is fine, does it looks worn at all on the splines?

Yes the splines on the shaft where the hub fits. They look ok to me no real difference in wear along the spline, but they look slightly more polished on the side that u guess is taking the load. There doesn't seem to be much difference between the play with a used hub and a new one I have borrowed to try.
Thanks I'll get it built back up then.
