Hi I've got a Mini ERA Turbo which I'm about to restore.

It's got an asbestos sticker in the engine bay.

Which parts should I worry about which could contain asbestos?

Sound proofing / Heat shield on the firewall? Brakes?

Keen to know what I should be looking for as I am also going to be polishing up metal parts such as starter motor / dizzy / alternator.

Thanks!

Not enough that there would be an genuine concern.

But yes, potentially heat shield between carb and turbo

Brake pads and clutch friction lining.

On asbestos the is always a guine concern! it only needs one fibre in your longs to get asbestos illness. How ever to free fibres that smal you do need to brake it up or grind it.

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

finish date set for project 1... march 2018

caution should still be taken when ever there might be some present

best and easiest way is to wet it down well and mop up with rags or what ever into a dubble baged bag? then re clean the woor space again discarding in plastic bags at an apropiate place!!

Probably got CAF gaskets as well.

I work in a nuclear power station handling used fuel - we are more concerned about asbestos than we are radiation.
That should tell you something.

Maybe hasnt been any successful law suits against radiation yet ? That's where most of the fear with employers lie. Compensation.

I worked on a building site once, where some asbestos was disturbed on the soffets. The entire roofspace was locked up and sealed off until some air testing was done.

Now this roofspace was horrific with dust, fibreglass and all sorts of crap. Even they guy who came out said there is more danger to your health from those, than there would ever be from the asbestos used on the soffets.

Dont forget, clutches, brakes and all those things, as well as many areas of building used asbestos for years, and very few if any of those are realistic problem areas.
Any of the problems are more related to heavy industry, or where proper dangerous asbestos dust was all over the place.

I'm not saying to be complacent, but a little bit of common sense needs applied too.
