Hi. While the turbo mini is on hold for a wile i started at my wifes mk1 traveller. Allot of thr pannels feel solid but have allot of surface rust on place's i can't reach with a steel brush. Would spraying zink spray and allot of wax be a good answer to this?

Or what are your opinions?

Or a blasting gun, just make sure you wear goggles and a dust mask, the stuff goes everywhere.

I sand blasted my shell which is probably your best bet, have seen someone on the mk1 forum
using citric acid in paste which seems to work well. Will add a link later

i have a sandblasting thing but it uses so much air that my compressor ( 300 l ) cant cope and like that it takes an hour to get a small part cleaned up. its an small thingy you stick one end in a bag and then the sand gets trough a tube by pressure...

My Clarke blast gun is the same concept as that, I run it off a 3hp 75ltr compressor and it's not bad but I have to let the tank fill quite often but it gives me chance to sweep up the grit for reuse.

Warwick.

That Citric acid bit looks good. What can you do to thicken up the solution to keep it on the body panels though? as the liquid solution will simply drip off before its done any effect

David.

as i see he uses adesive foil and mentions some sort of thickner. i would use yello... thinck i try the bigger grid first though. used asid once ( not that type but ants acid) and the panel kept getting eaten by the acid for a long time. no mather what i did (paint came of constantly) metal was pittet to even if i made it smooth

I personally would take a shell in to be professionally sandblasted, you need to make sure you use the right media and you also run the risk of panels warping due to heat generated from the blast media.

Good blasters with experience in doing cars know what to do and where to take care.

yes... do note that arround here they ask about 800 to 1000 pounds to blast a car and then its just the top that is done ( not the bodum nor the inside) and sprayed with thin oil instead of oxide paint. bit to much for my wallet ( rather spend that money on parts *happy*) i got some good grid this morning and wil fire up the sand blaster later on. was just wondering if it would work to use my 2 compressors on 1 line...

ps just noted... is there anny good rustconverter on the market? i have some but does not seem to work that well in previous times.

If you have two outlets on one tank you can easily hook the the compressors together. I had mine this way until one gave up on me so now it's just a spare reservoir tank!

The big one has an outlet with a fix T on it. Must say tje big one goes to 11 bar and the small one stops at 9. So just place a hose from the small one to the second outlet of the big one. The shop could not answer that and I'm worried that it wil puch 11bar into the small one instead of working together. ..

It'll put 11bar into the small one yes, but the small compressor will still shut down at 9, won't do any harm. Might be worth seeing if the compressors have adjustment on the shutoff/startup valve, and adjust them both to 10?

A yes the big one has an adjuster. Trying to remember why it is set on 11.. thinck it was to have more air in the tank. ( it has a 7 bar adjustingvalve further on the air line) owkey worth trying. Would be a good time to pop some holes in those old gas bottle's to while im ad it. ( was tended to use as bigger buffer)
