i seem to have a problem with the radiator side drive shaft.

in a stationary position the shaft seems to float between the diff and hub assembly. i can move it around one and a half inches either way, when i push the boot back from the hub i can pull the shaft from the hub. this can't be good can it?

what would cause this?

can it be sorted?

Not sure I fully understand, do you mean that the pot joint is lose and moving in and out of the dif?

If so it sounds to me like the spring clip on the end of the dif output shaft is broken.

if you mean the drive shaft moves and not the gearbos pot joint then it sounds like the disc side retaining clip on the drive shaft has broken, way to check is to slide the outer boot off and see if there is a metal c clip about inch and a half from the end of the drive shaft if it not there then that your problem

so what your saying is that the whole drive shaft moves from left to right about an inch and a half, and i presume this is with the inner balls and cage that sit in side the pot joint, and the pot joint does not move and neither does the outer cv, well if this is the case then it has to be one of the two retaining c clips on the outer edge of the drive shaft that has failed un les you have exsplained it wrong and i am not getting it right, how about a pictur as this can explain better then words
