Hi, this is a question mainly for the mirage crew but help from all would be good, I have found a metro turbo engine, which will go in a pickup when i find it, mainy people have said i should go for a t2 convertion and i don't really want to cut the bulk head, so the mirage kit seems the way to go, i want to talk spec, i plan to renew all the general things in the engine, i want to get about 120bhp on standerd boost with the option to turn it up to get more when i need it, what do you serject doing to the engine spec, things like crank, cam and other sorts of things please help.

if by120hp with 'standard boost' you mean 7psi? - i think you'll be only achieve this with a highish CR, and some serious head and cam work... It does depend which RR you take it to to get your '120hp' however...........

Allowing yourself more boost (say 10psi), you will easilly see 120hp, and still be withing the capabilities of the R5GT T2 turbocharger...

yeah i ment 120bhp with a good amount of bost not at a point where it will kill the engine quick. 10psi sounds about right, what could it be turned up to safely?

I'm getting asked this all the time (fingers getting tired typing !!), so i think its about time i did a bit of an article on it. I'll try and put something together over the weekend. It really is a bit tricky though as you all have different budgets and power expectations. I'll see what i can do.

You are all quite welcome to give me call for a chat about what you have in mind for your engine.

But as i tell most people, you dont have to go to mad on your engine builds. You are not building a normally aspirated screemer race engine so you dont need all the fancy engine components that go along with such a build. It's rpm that is a real killer of motors (my cossie v8's go to 11300) and they are built with lightweight components. The accleration and deceleration forces on your pistons, rods and cranks etc are HUGE and increase rapidly as the rpm rises. You develop your power lower down the rpm range with a forced induction motor (more power due to the big increase in torque) so you dont need the exotic components.

so if i take a standerd metro turbo engine, and fit the mirage kit, with a intercooler, and cam, rockers and a head, that will do the trick very nicly? does the kit come with the coolent pipes for the t2, or would i have to work that all out? do i use the mini turbo down pipe from the turbo or does the kit come with something one? i will call you when i get the car and engine and the engine work starts which will be april time, i just want to know im looking at the right way to go. thanks Alex.

sorry just thought, when i say head i mean a ported low compression fancy head, and 1.5 rockers and a decent turbo cam what ever soute the engine.

Alex I have asked for more or less the same spec as you so i will do my best to answer the qustions for you.

1. More or less a good head have a look at vmax scarts webs ite and look at the everyday 140. 1.5 rockers and a decent cam should see you near the 120ish. I am going a bit further with a 20 thou over bore and new omage pistons to bring the compression ration down further soi can run more boost.

With this setup and an intercooler I am hopefuly looking at about 130-140 bhp at the end of the day.
