Hi
I'm not new to the Mini scene having successfully installed a b18c4 honda vtec engine with a home built subframe to my Mini.
However a knackered gearbox and a yearning to get my spanners out again and the fact that I already have the original 998 engine lead me to a new project.
I know that it will probably only give 85- 90hp but that'll do me now As I'm getting on a bit now.
I have access to a lot of engineering services and am well aware of the pitfalls, but I'm gonna have a go anyway.
I'm sure there's loads of big bore men shaking their heads at me now and they are probably right but its all about the challenge for me.
Ive already stripped the engine and plugged the block, just deciding whether to fully dry deck or not. Got my eye on a couple of heads on ebay, as soon as I get one I will offer it up to my block and decide whether the front 3 studs will be ok or not.
Any input willbe greatly appreciated

MITP 2012 17.01 seconds 1/4 mile against "The Don"
MITP 2013 16.83 seconds 1/4 mile

Looking at the pictures of the k100 head on the Mini block.
If that's a standard bore it looks like an offset overbore of 0.120" should clear the valves. Does that seem right?

why not just change box?, couple of S9B LSD boxes went on 16miniclub forum recently for alot less than they have been selling for

I thought about changing the gearbox but I've had my fun in it and I always fancied giving the bmw head a bash, after reading the Greg Temkin article on the Internet thought I'd give it a go.
I realise there's lots of obstacles to overcome nut hopefully some of you good people will steer me in the right direction

I got quite a long way into building a 998 k100 engine. Then gave up because the problems were massive.

I was going to use +0.120" pistons to get around the clearance issues, an 850 crank to make the engine nearly equal bore and stroke.

In the end I realised that it was a mugs game as I could do a 998 5 port turbo far easier for far less cash and make more power.

It would have been good for pub points..... last century.

OK I take on board what your saying, what were the other issues besides valve clearance.
I will be happy with a 998 crank as it's just going to be a road engine.
Cheers for your comments this is what I need to get the information I need, I don't even mind small block pockets if necessary.
How much offset were you planning?
