So i collect my mayfair on saturday so was going to wait until then by ahh well
Engines been sat for 15 years which leads to my two questions?
What should i expect to replace straight away ?
.
.
What sort of things can i upgrade before a turbo ,want to get as many horses as possible ?
So far on my list (given to me by an amateur racer)
- BP7ES spark plugs
-k&N air filter
-self cleaning points
-metal radiator fan

Got around £600 to start with
Cheers any replies are much appreciated

May I suggest at the ripe old age of 17 that you look into insurance costs of a modified mini before thinking about increasing the performance.

Best thing you can do is make sure everything is in A1 condition.

Also BP7ES plugs are no good for a standard 998 so take the amateur racer's advice with a pinch of salt. I also don't see the need for a metal fan.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Amateur racer sounds very amaturish.

You say you want as much power as possible, but this is maybe a little unrealistic. A 998 could be made to make over 250bhp.

So what do you really want?

£600 won't get you close to a turbo conversion. I did it for a grand, and I had lots of bits hanging around and made lots of the other bits for free.

Also, what are points? -this is a joke I know what they are, and that's a load of shit. Chuck the dizzy in the bin and fit a propper mapped system.

So, to summerise, this is what I'd spend your £600 on.

1) Stage 1 kit (from minispares)
2) mapped ignition
3) a rolling road session

Then when you have a bit more money a better cylinder head and maybe a cam. At this point you'll have maybe 55bhp.

In the mean time you could maybe start collecting and building a turbo lump to drop in.

For a standard engine, fit the standard plugs. You can't gain power from spark plugs, no matter what anyone tyies to tell you.

7s would be ok for a mid boost turbo.

Swansea boyo!

My 998 only made 45 on the rollers last year with a stage 1 kit. Then again, nothing on my car is painted red so that's minus ponnies *tongue*. I guess with a better cam and head you'd make 55. £600 doesn't even come close for a turbo build :(

I'd echo Will_h's comments. I was in the same position as you a few years ago. A stage one kit, megajolt and a rolling road session will be money well spent. Then enjoy the car while you do your homework and buy a donor 998 to build up into a turbo engine.

my old 1098 +40 made 60 something with a std 202 head single su 1.5" lcb small bore headers and a street cam also had the 123 electronic dissy altho now i see that as a total waste should have gotten the mappable job

in my case it was a fresh build so a diffrent cam was easy and the hedders and carb where on it when it was bought so no expence there so farly cheep for a fresh build and i was 18 just gotten my license best motor i could have had it tought me to drive the car not relay on power

these guys know there stuff quite often i forget this and dissmiss there knwlage al say its old things have changed while thats true the castiron lump hasnt changed! so why should the decades of knolage for what work change?
