If you crunch 20 times, a new gear is needed to solve matters...

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem. |

put it on a slope in gear, handbrake off, push the clutch in. Nice easy way to rule out clutch drag. On 7th Oct, 2010 5haneJ said:

If it does it going up but not down then i would say that points away from bulk rings but i could be wrong. |

So continuing on from this. I now have a crunching issue into 2nd and 3rd and back down the box too.

So continuing on from this. I now have a crunching issue into 2nd and 3rd and back down the box too. Gearbox has done about 100 miles, with new clubman gearset and NOS rover bulk rings. On a gentle slope the clutch disengages with ease with engine off with good biting point, but when running sounds like the syncros are being made to work in the gears that are not crunching. Any thoughts on the matter? I doubt the primary gear is an issue as it ran fine before. Frankly I can't be bothered to pull the engine for the 3rd time in 5 months so will just change the gears if they are battered by the end of the year. Do bulk rings need a running in oil? I have just dropped in the Valvoline VR1 I always use and wonder whether the gearbox could do with a period of running in? once I am satisfied nothing is indeed causing clutch drag elsewhere.
