Hi Guys,

I think there are a few people here into their PA / audio setup.

I’ve got some Peavey ST-15 350w speakers which are 8ohm, and I have these connected to my Peavey pro messenger subs, (via the crossover in the sub) which are 4ohm and 600w. Firstly is this going to a problem???

The sound from this setup sounds like it’s still quite toppy and not a lot of bass, is there anything that can be done? (apart from twiddling with the mixer?)

Thanks

Jimbo

At my mums house, we used to have a 15' x 8' shack that we used in a similar way to the Lambs arse. Not nearly as posh mind.

I had a pair of cerwin vega ls15's driven by a Celestion 1000w amp plus the two ls 10's driven by a 500w amp. I had quite the opposite experience to what you describe. The top end was pretty much non existent, while the low notes were so huge, it'd bounce drinks over and froth up bottles of pop.

How about these and a big amp to suit? If you have the room.

2.66 ohm load. Depending on phase behaviour it can be quite a bitch to drive so you need an amp that will do that.

as far as the tinny sound goes.. horn loaded compression drivers, and especially Peavy ones tend to be a bit harsh up top , but they are very efficient. The lack of bass is partly not enough room for true low frequencies (you need about a 12 meter diagonal for sub 30 hz), partly cabinet tuning of the sub and party balance as you have too much up top.

Place the bass units tight in the corners that way you will get quite a few extra dB's by the boundaries and try and cut the uppers frequencies a bit ( a bit of dammar varnish directly on the titanium membrane of the tweeter can work wonders to control break up modes) , but also cut a bit around 220Hz that tends to reduce the amount of ''cupped hands shouting'' that you get with a lot of PA setups.

hope this helps a bit

That sir, is not rust, it is the progressive mass reduction system

I knew someone would comment. Lol.

Now PA systems for pubs/shacks is a very different thing to filling the back of your car with woofers and bazzing it up at McDonalds :)
