Amazing. It's a beautiful piece of engineering.

Brett, Apparently it's very resilient to det.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

interesting; wonder what the torque characteristics are and power come to think of it.

reminds me a little of the rotary concept too

like to know what they rev to im assuming its like something like 10k +

Looks interesting, but surely there is going to be a lot of friction in there with everything sliding over each other,
and I imagine the thrust washer between the star shaped bit and the outlet shaft wouldn't last too long.

Also, it would be a bitch to change the valve timing (you would need a new cylinder head!)

Also, they mentioned the heavy weight of a normal crankshaft, yet all the cylinders and pistons are also rotating in this design, which would surely weigh as much as a crankshaft.

But an interesting engine nonetheless.

Here is my two pennorth.

This is not entirely new. It is just a variation on a swashplate engine, surely ?

No det on 14;1 CR and 91 octane speaks of poor breathing to me.

not to dis similar to the guts of a rotary piston pump http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mul...way_version.JPG, the "sliding " cylinder head will be the killer tho, head gaskets are bad enough to seal when they dont moove lol

I can't see this working in the real world and being reliable.

Yep definitely looks like a play on an old style pump design. It'd be interesting to see how well it performs in the real world, torque, power bands, rev limits etc...

Haha

Its got too many joints and they become a high wear area. In real world can't see people looking after it.

Imagine the astronomical costs of replacement parts though if something went wrong? Might be simple but it's highly sophisticated.

reliability! and cost for major production is the stumbling block IMO

and no turbo lol

my favourite oddball engine design was one with opposing pistons where one crank ranat a different speed, inlet amd exhausts were ports in one of the cylinder walls, what I liked most about it was it used tried tested reliable methods. wish I could remember itsname

Yeah that does sound like the Napier Deltic, an awesome engine it's own right! Although as you were describing Denis, one of the crank shafts rotates in the opposite direction rather than at a different speed *smiley*

i know the deltic engine, but the engine im thinking of is a 4 stroke. im going to have to find the damn thing now! incidently i stumbled on a video on youtube about a year old where a collectors deltic was brought into service to haul freight for a while. love the sound of them.

any of you gentlemen with machine shops in your garage fancy giving it a whirl? the thing i like most about this engine is every part of it is an already tried, tested, reliable method.

How would the rings on the top two pistons get on with a hole to let the gas in/out.
