That'll never work. Oil doesn't flow up hill out of the turbo. If your drain is like that at the moment, that will be contributing to your smoking problems.

How? It's a square, the oil must go back up hill as it has three 90 degree bends in it. This won't work as it relies on gravity to get the oil out of the turbo into the engine.

If I understand it, like this, the red face is the turbo, the piece if 15mm is from the turbo and the 22 into the block

pipe by smithsonmorris, on Flickr

even so he 2 biggest problems are the fall of the piece of 15mm will be so shallow it wont move the oil away, also with where you have that reducer the 15mm will be at least a 3rd full of oil before it flows away. I know they are very tight to make direct from turbo to block but it can be done and as andy says most probably the root cause of smoking problems

Nothing wrong with the copper or solder...it's just bad design.

Too many bends and not enough drop, more so because of the bends.

speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

a better angle of the amount of drop in it

still no good?

Also how fast is the flow of oil through the turbo?

What stevie said, when all is said and done you can talk about flow blah this that and the other , but you just need to copy one from a decent build thread on here and it will work simples, its not rocket surgery

That was mine from many moons ago onto a gt17 mirage mani, welded steel tube from b and q, a fuel pump blank plate and a home made flange for the turbo. not shown but this had a 13mm flouro lined silicone elbow joining the 2. But other people have had some great ideas with oil drains just need to search a little chief
