I keep flitting between turbo / supercharger & back! , currently thinking supercharger at the moment as there are kits available & doesn't need bulkhead mods.

Anyway, doing some research & calcs, getting in pressure ratio maps etc etc, and was wondering what sort of power from 10psi I could expect with the following

an m45 supercharger pulley ratio 1.57 should give 10psi & in the 60% efficient zone at 1.68 pressure ratio
8.5:1 CR
MG metro cam
No intercooler
Suck through HIF44

Thoughts pleased,
Cheers

Just go turbo. 60% efficiency says it all.

You can fit a turbo without bulkhead mods. See Mirage or Mattys manifolds (pretty much a kit including down pipe) or even an over the clutch manifold if you fancy a bit if fabrication.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

My calcs show pulley ratio of 1.44 on a 1275 for 10 psi, 1.57 gives more like 12psi.

Also the pressure ratio is more like 2 when you consider the suck through nature of an SC setup. Still you end up just about in the 60% efficiency range. Which is a bit rubbish compared to any turbo.

However, with a decent head and exhaust and well setup it will make 130bhp. At best.

I've been there, and got the t-shirt. I managed 124bhp from 11psi on my 1350cc long stroke. This was using a very good head, 8.5-1CR, 276Cam.

All I can say is am now on my 4th turbo engine and I would never consider a supercharger again.

The main reasons are

Suck through - no intercooler, high charge temps above 8 psi

Starting problems - fuel as to far to travel, especially from cold.

Fuel economy was terrible - 8mpg really

Not enough power - 130bhp max, where as my turbo makes 150bhp at 11psi and returns 35 mpg on the motorway.

But mainly because there is a belief on TM that superchargers are for Gays!

I would also say that turbocharging would possibility work out cheaper, depending on required bhp of course.

Either way I would strongly recommend Megajolt for both applications.

Normal dizzys don't sense boost, so are really compromised.
