40 teeth. divided by 360 equals 9 degrees per tooth. Or does it??

I want to set my timing a few degrees advanced as per many experts advise.
Got a supercharged 1275 running a relatively mild-ish cam! On a 112lca which I'd already timed straight up but advised to go advanced.

So I'd already done so with an offset key but to get what I want can do so buy going an extra tooth round on the cam gear an popping a straight key back in. But this is where the title question comes in!

I became confused when reading out of the Minispares catalogue. The offset key section actually says that by moving round one tooth is equivalent to 13 degrees??? But that doesn't make sense so what am I missing??

Help please required as I want to do it this week if poss.

Thanks in advance people,

All the best

its 9 degrees per tooth, but as the cam turns half engine speed its 16 degrees per tooth at the crank.

Yeah I know but as I know exactly what the timing is now then if I can confirm the above I can very easily set it to what I want it to be. Without further expense that's already off the chart and going through the full timing set up process!!

Dont forget, we measure crank degrees, not camshaft.

And cam turns at half crank speed.

So if my ( terrible ) maths is correct. One cam tooth would be like double at the crank.

So 9deg turn of cam = 18deg at crank ?

Just buy adjustable cam gear then we dont need to worry about maths lol

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

I'm happy to admit the mention of maths brings me out in a cold sweat but based on the 7 degree key that is currently being used in my cam gear gave me the 7 degrees adjustment I needed to get my timing straight up then if 1 tooth is in fact a 9 degree adjustment then that's confirmed what I need to know to play around as required to get the few degrees advance i want to achieve. It was just the Minispares talk of 13 degrees that threw me?!?!

Either way, you'll need to measure it, so just measure it.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Smart Guy!

mainland europe near ze germans

I would get a decent chain first and check if the standard dot to dot method gets you near enough ( you might yet lucky) . Some chains are like cheese and stretch like a mofo so after a few km your meticulously timed cam is now miles retarded. offset woodruffs are cheap and don't move once to get them in there

That sir, is not rust, it is the progressive mass reduction system
