Rear Alloy hubs - various options

Hi,

At the moment I seem to just be adding weight and not saving any...

So in an attempt to go in the correct direction I have been looking at the various options for Alloy rear hubs, I just wondered what experiences or facts anyone has with any of them?

There seems to be:

KAD
SC / DSN
Minisport

Minisport seems to recieve widespread derision, I have never bought from them so have no experience myself. Just wondered what you thought?

Cheers

I got the sc ones from DSN. I got discount due to being a TM member.

I have the sc ones, and its a shame to hide them behind a drum.

Dorking

SC again here.

No issues. Although I did have to grind a little off my grease caps to get them to go in.

Cheers,

Thank you for the feedback

Based on the images off the various websites I was already leaning towards the DSN / SC hubs, so I think I will go this way from what's been said.

In terms of pure weight saving I like the KAD rear disc conversion but the cost and the issues I have heard mentioned put me off so I plan to start with the usual ally hubs / superfins.

Cheers

Turbo This..

Yes possibly, but the rear suspension is more of a headache than the front for me as it's all too easy to screw the camber stiffness up with trailing arms, so whatever I do I am going to do some ugly bar tests on the standard Mini stuff first as a benchmark.

Andy,

Thanks for mentioning the discount, every bit helps

I ordered a silver pair today so should be with me on Monday *Clapping*

All the stuff I have had from SC / DSN has been good quality in terms of machining and finish so more of the same hopefully

Cheers

I'm on the SC ones too, and theyre fine, but as above the grease cap is pretty tight.

Carnforth, Lancs

I wonder if these would fit better? Probably easier to adjust:

How much does the trailing arm twist in the direction of camber when you apply a load to it.

Skolawn,

If you attach a scaffold pole (Ugly bar) rigidly to the rear hub, hold the scaffold tube at 12 o'oclock then push / pull as though you are trying to increase or reduce the camber.

If you pushed with a force of 10 Newtons and your scaffold was 1 metre long and the hub moved through an angle of 1 degree you have a camber stiffness of 10 Nm/deg. The bigger the number the higher the camber stiffness.

Tom,

I haven't tested the Mini yet as I need to get the car in a position where there's enough room to do the tests.
