Just got my new disc in the post but when i mean disc, i mean all it is is an a4 letter with the disc printed at the bottom, looks home made to say the least!

Now i know i dont need to display from october which i'm not 100% convinced on but i didn't realise the tax stays with you, they refund the seller of full months tax due automatically (if dvla ever actually receive your paperwork that is!) Basically, you cant buy a car and get the balance of the disc as before. You will need to buy tax when you buy your car, worth bearing in mind if your considering a new purchase soon.

Reality is, it probably pushes to ensure all cars are insured moted etc by the new owner

Swansea boyo!

Yeah the new system is going to be a nightmare if your buying a car, I like the idea of the direct debit monthly I just hope people don't forget their MOT is due because their tax isnt (how I always remember when mine is!)

They don't die, they just get faster!

When does this come in? May make the 8 months tax on mine pretty irrelevant to the sale..

I read somewhere that dvla have run out of discs and are not re ordering for the last few hence the sheet of paper. I also read that some sad tax disc collecting goons reckon if you keep it without cutting the disc out it could be worth something in years to come (yeah right)

Thats exactly what they have said in the letter. Something along the lines of reducing wastage and savings for the tax payer!

Yep. I could do without paying a loan and company car tax. Looking like I'm going to have to renew the insurance.

Not worth doing a bit of a price drop to just get rid?

Reality is if someone turns up thinking he is mike brewer is going to haggle. Perhaps drop a little to get interest but stick to your guns when someone comes knocking

Savings fuck all.

The government are being greedy robbing bastard extortion experts and nothing more !!

New rules....we the public do all their admin for them.

We the public have to surrender the tax before we sell....and wait fuck knows how long for a refund minus that month

The new buyer has to then tax for that same month. So government gets 2 months payment for same car, for same month.

THEY save money on admin and paperwork...because there is less paper and we do the admin for them

SO dont be fooled for one second, the only people benefiting from this are the government.

And for car traders and dealers...I can only imagine it will be a total nightmare.

speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

My thoughts too. Double payment for same month.

I think you maybe ok as it still has a physical tax disc on it that stays valid until renewal.
