Twin Cam Turbo Build In Progress Rothwell, Northants

I thought I'd start my own build thread, I'm not sure how long its going to take so I'll keep it brief and to the point and get lots of pics up as things progress.

The build: The plan is to build an A+ Motor and get as much out of it as I can. My Target is circa 200 BHP.

There's not much to show but it should become more interesting the further we go :)

A plus Block

K1100LT Head

K1100LT Head mounted on the block using the three original studs that are correctly located

Next jobs are to beadblast, weld and machine

Back Soon *wink*

I've just found out that the 461368 means that they're the 256 degree LT cams. Which is good as that's what I bought them as :) still don't know which is exhaust or inlet :(

The service manual tells you which cam is which. I believe there are some indication bands on one or the other.

Thanks Carl,

The service manual states on page 29:

Camshaft identification.
Inlet: Groove after the thrust bearing
Exhaust: No groove

Just what I needed :)

that info is for the high lift RS cams..Can't for the life of me remember which is which for the LT cams, but as Carls said, its in the 'correct' workshop manual. Use the right manual to determine the inlet and exhaust, but in the grand scheme it doesn't matter which goes where as you'll time them up anyway.

The K1100 LT and 'RS' low lift cams are the same. K100 4v and K1200 are usually the saught after high lift 'RS' cams. The easiest way to determine which you have is measure the lobe lift. 'LT' cams are around 7.5mm lift while the 'RS' cams are around 8.9mm lift

as for which is which, i don't remember myself :) i'd be looking in the book or figuring it out with the location slots on the rear of the cams

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

It was the LT Service manual that I downloaded which states that 461368 are the 256 degree LT cams. The service manual also states that these cams are also identifiable by the extra groove after the thrust bearing. All's good now :)

Head all cleaned up and bead blasted ready to go for welding and machining now. One thing that has done me head in (Pardon the pun) and that's the exhaust studs. Who ever removed the exhaust simply cut through the studs, they'd rusted like hell and now Im struggling to get them out too. It looks like its going to the machine shop as it is and the studs can be removed there :)

Its looking a lot better than it did when I first got it :)

don't forget to weld up the hole the rod cam out of. Or you will have oil and water mixing

I've taken the block and head etc. over to the machinists today. I've given him the template supplied by Specialist Components but he's asked for the exact measurements for the stud spacing so that he can enter it into one of his machines. Anybody still got the numbers from having theirs drilled for the K Head Studs?
