Hi all,

I have a problem getting my TV to receive a signal. Basically... my house was prewired for sky/TV when I moved in. Most rooms in the house have an aerial point all wired back to a 'triax' unit in the loft (one of these)....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/26121925482...rue&lpid=108&de

Now... when we moved in there was a satellite dish installed but no TV aerial. We initially watched freeview through an old sky box in the lounge but have since installed sky which is fine. The problem is trying to receive a signal in the bedroom.. I dropped off the wall plate of the aerial point for a look and it is connected, there is also another coax cable in the box bot not connected. I'm assuming that this is connected back to the triax box in the loft as I have traced it as well as I can and see that the cable is heading in that direction. Most terminals in the box have cables attached to them. I have connected a roof aerial to the box in the correct terminal (second from top left as you look at it), the UHF one and presumed this would work? The aerial is inside the loft, not ideal but I have seen many inside before.

Am I missing something here? I know the position of the aerial is not ideal but I imagined I'd at least receive a few channels... albeit slightly poorer signal? Any suggestions??

Well its all wired as it should be, basically aerial to the amp and then a coax from amp to each aerial point. You don't say if you get a signal on the others but essentially if the problem is just the bedroom I would check for certain by using a multimeter to bell the coax. Other than that, the amps can show as powered up but in reality as they are on 24/7 they can be fucked and doing nothing. You need a digital aerial and to check the signal from this a meter but if you look at other houses around the aerials will all point in the same general ddirection, if you put yours in a similar orientation in the loft you should get something. But you need it outside really, if its a poor signal area chances are you could get fuck all. We are in a good signal area but mine in the loft only just picks up enough and it breaks up in bad weather

Hi Oli.. yes I have put the aerial in a similar direction (or as close to) as the neighbours. You say I need a digital aerial.. maybe then this is my problem? I found an old aerial in my dads garage when I was nosing there last week and stole it.. it's in fairly good nick but probably been stored there for many years & judging by the slight weathering I'd say up on a roof for a few years before that! So I doubt it's a digital specimen!

Although.. I'm sure not many people changed their aerials when the switchover happened? I thought as long as you had a TV set that was digital your old aerial would be just fine?

I get what you say about the old aerials but for the cost of it, just get a new digital one and put it outside, that's half the battle won then and future proofed. If you still having issues after that it can only be the amp, wiring or tv at fault which is easy to spot. Time to get tye ladders out, want to come put mine up? Lol
