Hello TM.

Someone mentioned this to me a long time ago and I have since tried searching and have not found anything really related to it.

May years ago a guy mentioned to me that you can fit a single bolt frame in a twin bolt car, they said that you can use the central hole in the twin bolt bulkhead for the single tower mount. If this is possible aren't the floor mounts different?

Reason for asking is an ideal conversion has come up for sale but the frame is unfortunately a single tower mount and not a twin. It has come up pre-owned and therefore would save me nearly 50% off of buying new, the more I think about it the more I think it is not actually possible or the best idea in the world but I am more than happy to be proved wrong.

Thanks all in advance.

I think you'd be best replacing the crossmember mounts from a later shell, they have a tube through the middle of the single bolt to prevent crushing the shell when tightening the bolts, if you're ample with a welder and grinder it shouldn't be too much of a task

Thanks Carl.

I understand what you mean there. That's something I would be more than capable of doing.

Other than that, in theory should the so gle fit up to a twin bulkhead? I was concerned the feet wouldn't mount it I the floor as it should?

I'm pretty sure the floor pan is the same, once the single bolt is in it'll drop the subframe down a bit and the new mounts should line up, I'd probably fit solid mounts all round though, it made a massive improvement to my steering response, the solid type is probably what youre used to though

The solid type is indeed what I am familiar with.

So buying single mount frame and fitting it into my twin bolt car shouldn't cause any dramas or much head scratching?

Great news.

Is it a vtec Frame?

If so it would be I hole lot easer to piss about with that and weld the 4 3/8 unf nuts to.

I have started posting on Instagram also my name on there is turbomk1golf

Nothing is impossible it just costs more and takes longer.

Carnforth, Lancs

The floor mounts will be different - but the floor/toe board can easily be redrilled to suit

Not a vtec frame, promotive R1 frame. I thought the cradle was removeable like the Lynx kit but it's not.

as already mentioned, there is no spacer in the Bulkhead of the early shells so you can squash the bulkhead with the big bolt...

on the promotive frame is there room to drill for the 4 crossmember bolts? that would be my choice,

once the top bolts are done up, it should just be a case of supporting the rear of the frame and bashing the extra holes into the floor.

Exactly right, hence why I am looking at the pro motive option, no bulkhead mods, full inner wings. I was under the impression it was a straight bolt in job, which it appears it isn't. The frame will be chopped and welded long before the shell is.

Yes John, the pro motive frame is based on a mini frame, the only area which is altered is the front cross member, the tower mounts will be exactly the same as a normal frame so there should be plenty of room for a redrilled and some captive nuts welding in.

The floor area doesn't worry me as much as the bulkhead, initially I knew that area would need attention.

Thanks for all of the help,
