Just wondered what the thoughts were on crankcase venting. I currently have two K&N type filter vents on the rocker cover and the flywheel housing. I am about to fit an oil catch tank which has a top vent outlet. Is it best to retain the local filter or would it be better to plumb it into the the inlet hosing just after the air filter. I know that crankcase vent gas tends to drop the octane rating of the inlet charge but would that be significant at boost pressures of 7psi or less. Any thoughts appreciated.
Cheers
Dave

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

my advice would be to plumb all breathers to the the oil catch tank!

crank case ones and rocker top!

then fit a large ...ish.... breather k&n filter on the tank to the top.
two breathers from the crank case and one from the rocker top 5/8" ID will be ok.

nothing less.

i was running just the 2 breathers (transfer and timing covers) and was getting a fair old bit of smoke out of the transfer case one even with no bore/ring wear...since then i fitted a rocker cover with breather and i hardly get any smoke from them...no idea why though.

Thanks lads. So you would advise against plumbing the catch tank vent into the inlet would you?
cheers

Yes, because oil fumes reduce the Octane of the fuel + that it soots down the engine.

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

I am distraught.

My engine has a lot of crankcase pressure. It is so much, that smoke and oil comes out of the breathers.

No oilcase can save my problem, because i think the piston rings have to be fucked up.

First i thought to make an external oil circuit for this summer (from the oilcase to the speedo case). But this is more than a flub...

Why would you want to fit a breather on the inlet manifold ? *oh well*
