What engine stands are you guys using. I'm looking for something that I can rotate etc. What do you have that works well?

Cheap and chearfull, but I do use the 4-wheel version which is a lot more stable.

I also purchased one of those fancy "drip trays" which really helped keep the oil off the floor, but actually proved to be a pain, literally, as it limited how close I could get to the engine, resulting in a lot of leaning... ONLY time I use it now, is to catch the biggest bits of oil after I remove the transfer case or trans while I then have a brew. I then pull it out of the way and use a small tray under the stand. Much better...

I do have a block that I machined probably 20-years ago that I bolt to the alternator brackets, and I then use this to bolt the engine to the flange on the engine stand. I use it for everything, except for torqing the flywheel. If I made another, I'd probably tie into the oil filter bolts holes as this looks a lot more robust.

Have you got a sturdy workbench?? If so id make something to mount on the end. Much better than a stand. They are always to low down for me!!

Problem with mounting to the bench is you can't walk round the block, musing on the plan of attack and pondering the next move, you can only gaze at it from the Contemplation Stool.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

I've decided to buy a stand for now that I can then chop up and convert into a bench mounted stand next year when we move house and I get the workshop/garage conversion that I've always wanted :)

Thanks for helping me decide
