Looks to use similar pads to KAD

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

£690 for a KAD setup so this is probably cheaper if you source the gear properly.

Yes true. Its the machining of hubs and other parts that is the make or break really. I am currently mulling over using these calipers - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CA017-Rear-Brake...=item35d8e141eb

The look like the usual poor quality mini moto/cheap off road vehicle kit but i thought it was worth a stab so I've requested a drawing and pad dimensions from the seller.

There are also these calipers

http://www.petrolscooter.co.uk/kazuma-jagu...e-calliper.html

They seem to use a similar, if not identical, pad as the KAD set up - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kazuma-Jaguar-50...=item27ec989dc2

Pad dimensions (cr*p drawing) - http://www.kazumaracing.com/brake-pad-set-...rts-p-8915.html

I found calipers, discs and pads from a production car that are perfect in every respect for the Mini, only require a custom hub and caliper mounting to get them to fit. They have proper dust seals on them too!

There are options out there, you just have to look for them.

So I spend all my effort researching and you want me just to tell you?.... *tongue*

I'll let you know what they are on the quiet, otherwise everyone will be looing for them and the prices will go through the roof like the BMW head did *happy*

Actually looking at the KAD website and checking the pad code it fits various motorbikes and quads.
What about these calipers from a kawasaki bike? Then just find a disc and hub to fit.

The lack of handbrake mechanism is the problem, otherwise you'd go for the wilwood ps1 calipers which i believe Paul Wiginton has fitted

I'm sure if you tried every possible caliper that the pad fit you'd find something with a handbrake fitting?
EBC used to supply MD6204D and MD6025D to KAD for their rear disc rotors although they are a bit hard to come across online.

Here are two versions that might appeal:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/PAIR-WILWOOD-HYDRA...T-/271014679064

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Wilwood-120-12...#ht_2471wt_1123

Second one uses the same pads, but appears to have been designed to look more apealing (is billet-ish instead of die-cast) and has the potential to be used on larger discs. But I'm sure it'll work just fine on smalletr discs too...
These are both claimed as to include dust seals and hence suitable for a road car...

oh, and for a "factory fit" mechanical lever / hydraulic alloy caliper off a production vehicle, take a look at Pontiac Fiero rear calipers, and can-am spyder rear calipers.
But the Wilwood hydra-mechanical calipers are easy to find and occasionally come up on special at certain outlets...

I have no doubt they would but I would consider using the 998 cooper 7" disc as its smaller (obviously) and thinner too. Theres no point over braking the rear *wink*

So, is there a lighter set up with mechanical handbrake compared to Kad,or simply a different arrangement of disks calipers and flanges? As that is really the only reason I can see for seeking an alternate set up.

It is all subjective really.

So, you can easily find some hydraulic / mechainical calipers for $150 new, or a little less used, but you will need to sort out a drive flange, cables, and mounting bracket.

It's that sort of TM "can do" mentality that will appeal to some, but others would rather just purcase something already made. Nothing wrong with either...

I'm sure if a cost and weight saving could be achieved then it would be a win win situation regardless of work.
