The SPI cam that you're using is actually a standard 1275 profile and incidentally the same as the Metro Turbo cam, (but nothing special) and I recall that it doesn't really like more than 5000ish RPM on a NA SPI engine either.

The MG cam will work nicely, and will help towards higher rpm. But running out of puff can be lots of things. Fuelling and ignition advance are worth looking at first.

Then any restrictions in the inlet side, what spec head have you got? mine: http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=570945 |

Years ago I ran a boggo Metro 1275 in a Mini, the standard cam does make the engine very "breathless" higher up, a different cam will help a lot.

My secondhand MG Metro can lets the engine run to well over 7K if i let it (like last weekend) but it does have the benefit of Turbophil head and a Robert tune. |

yes its the way to go with the cam change, a modded head would compliment each other and you could run say 10psi boost with no intercooler on good octain fuel with 26 ccs in the chambers
