I have been looking out for a good 998 engine for a mate to complete a resto project. It got to the point last night that i started looking for a complete car we could break. On ebay, i was gobsmacked at the prices they are now commanding. Less than avarage cars are comfortably in excess of £2k and what i'd class as a reasonable daily driver £5k. I always considered £5k for a top knotch car with just a few of the high end builts or desirable eatly stuff being more but clearly not the case now.

Long gone are the days of these being budget bangers which i think is going to have a significant impact on the scene

So anyone got a good 998 engine and box ready to drop in?

Tell me about it, I've seen people trying to sell late 80s/early 90s minis for over £3000 not in the best conditions! Which imo are the least desirable ones!

I often think (and sometimes yell out at the screen) WHAT!? Why on earth do u think its worth that much!?? But then most the time they do get that price? Just the prices now i suppose, imagine what we'll all be sitting on in another decade!

I'd have been lucky to get £3000 for mine before the turbo and it was a clean mini that's had a lot spent on it unlike other stuff that seems to be selling for more. Too many people price their cars on how much they've spent which is why people are crazy they think they can make a profit restoring old cars. People think because some idiots buy 1275s for £600 it means 998s are worth loads too! Id have most likely given away my 998 if it wasn't a dud and knew someone who wanted one.

Lads think our problem is we're been buying our cars within the era where Mini's where dirt cheap but now 50th and 55th anny have gone by and people dragging old non restored barn finds out its now making general public demand more for cars
