I asked this in another post and it was suggested i run it in a new thread, a good idea me thinks

1, if you've finished your mini, what have you spent and how many bhp.

2, if you're building your mini turbo, how much budget have you allowed for the bhp you want ?(dont forget to say how much bhp you want/expect)

Think this could be interesting.

Thought i'd be first !! lol

140 bhp, ?1500 all in approx inc car.

1986 mot failure mini mayfair. Engine was pretty basic spec, regular A+ bottom end, Some old low comp pistons (no longer available, not ideal anyway, crown to deck height was huge). Normally aspirated spec MED stage 3 head that was kicking about. My own manifolds with a T2 from scrapper R5. Tweaked metro turbo dizzy. Home made vernier cam gear. Pre A+ style clutch, grey diaphram with AP plate. Gearbox / diff were totally standard !!!!!!!!!!!! i wanted to see how easy it was to destroy one ! This engine was sold with a good 10k miles on it and as far as i know its still running

??? bhp, ?3000 on engine so far and its not even built !!!

This ones a bit special but still not a crazy as you may think. Still uses A+ crank (tuftrided) and block. Dont want to give to much away on this one yet !!! when its run and i have some figures. I'm using bits that in the whole you can buy from the shelf, but i'm having a good play with them. You'll find materials like ceramics in there !!!

ive spent quite a lot on my pretty much standard engine,not being able to find a complete car or lump i got parts from alllover the show as for bhp havent got a clue, as for roughly wot ive spent so far here goes;
reconed engine (suspect its about 1310ish)
apparently has a avonbar stage 1 cam in?
with spare block and recon box 310.00
turbo carb head plenum etc 160.00
recon unleaded head 200.00
bulhaed box 55.00
exhaust down pipe clamp uprated steady+
poly bushes 109.00
boost guage+fitting kit heatcloth air filter
fuel filter 2 core radiator oil cooler+pipes
air pipe 5/16 fuel pipe in car boost adjuster
braided oil feed pipe for turbo etc etc 634.00
maniflow 2" exhaust 176.00
era bonnet vent 20.00
so thats approx 1664.00
plus the odd couple of quid here and there
thats the cost of me engine so far the rest of the car probably cost me less *tongue*
does this sound expensive or petty much normal?

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

Sounds fairly normal to me Minime, the costs of these projects soon mount up !

Lets keep hearing about your cars.

About ?700 to turbo mine... but that included guages, suspensions and brakes upgreades... and I already had the base car!

The next step will cost a whole lot more thou, but the best thing is ?3k is still cheap engines compaired to Cosworths etc!

If i had to guess, i'd say i've spent 15K building and developing my mini - but it is one of the more sprightly ones on the strip...

I reckon i could replicate (or make better!!!) everything on mine to the same spec for 4 maybe 5K

Ouch!!!

errrr.........

at the mo i should think around 550 - 650 ish has been spent that is nearly all on parts, i was lucky to get the car for my old 1ltr engine and a set of 7 x 13 hockenhiems which was a bargain.

i will probably be looking around the 1000 mark by the time it is all together and running.

the spray job can wait a long while thats for sure.

calvin.

i suppose the bhp will be about 130 - 140 ish im thinkin.
hopefully
