Has anyone ever used a water temp gauge as an oil temp gauge before?

Temp is temp, can't see why it couldn't be used, similarly Eden used an oil cooler and as extra small radiator at the front of his car. On 26th Jan, 2012 Tom Fenton said:

As long as temp range is the same, then they'll both work fine for almost any liquid 9.85 @ 145mph
