Hi, I am new on here so hi to all.

I have just got my mini turbo on the road, and I am still running it it.

I would like to fit an anti lag system, but don't know where you can get a kit from or of anyone knows of a way of rigging your own system up

Cheers, Kev

Hi there Kev

Welcome to the site

Noone on here really sees the need to run anti-lag, although I am sure you could make something work if needed.

If you are worried about lag, consider shortening the final drive ratio, or maybe swapping the turbo for a smaller garrett T2.

Cheers for that tom.

I have a large intercooler fitted which takes up the whole grill space, so takes a lot of air to fill up. I don't realy want a smaller turbo as I am planning to run silly boost.

Anyway, ALS has got to be the coolest add on for a turbo motor.

are you refering to the anti lag system in which case winds ur turbo up to full boost whilst stationary then dumping the clutch for a quick get away ive had a cossie with this fitted it cost 3000 pound tho

A little maths to pleasure yourself with...

3000rpm = 50 revs / sec = 100 'injestions' of air per second.

Each 'injestion' of air = 1293cc / 4 = 323.25cc's

So that's (in pure airflow terms) 100*323.25cc's
=32325cc ofair per second at 3000rpm.

I'll guess at a 'huge' front intercooler of 60cm x 25cm deep x 5cm thick. Hence = 7500cc of total external volume.
But as it's an intercooler ('ll assume a bar/plate and that internal volume is 0.5 of total) - hence internal volume is (approx) 3750cc's

3750cc / 32325cc = 0.116 seconds extra 'lag'...

Clearly this isn't telling the whole story, as 1) you'd have a (smaller) intercooler no matter what and 2) It doesn't take into account pressure drop across the intercooler and how this affect the flow.

There is always this argument about how it doesn't account for the time to pressurise the air inside the intercooler. I've spent a good time thinking about this in the past - and came to the conclusion that as it's a dynamic system, so the air pressure around a given molecule stays constant from the time it leaves the compressor up to the plenum or wherever, so that argument can be discounted - leaving only 1) and 2) above...

I don't think any 'lag' worth mentioning comes from the intercooler size, so much as your choice of turbine and compressor - which must be pretty impressive if your name is anything to go by.....

Is this Anti lag system the same/similar to Hypercharging?

Theres a cossie round my way thats running his turbo as a gas turbine, using a separate fuel supply direct to the turbo and igniting it in the turbo to keep it spinning up on tick-over.

Its supposed to be quite a complex system to rig up but also quite effective on eliminate lag.

Also sounds quite dangerous.*happy*

Thanks for the responce lads. I still want anti-lag though. The system Im thinking of is the one that retards the ignition and pumps more fuel through, giving boost at idle. Problem when you've got a carb and dizzy??? 5th injector like you see on the r5s and electronic ignition maybe??? Any idias???

As for my user name, its only a name, I don't know what bhp Im pushing out as Im still running in. But saying that, I've seen 230+bhp on a lower spec engine. So 300 may be posable with NOS if it don't go bang??? Worth a go!!

Anyway, if anyone has any info on Antilag, please let me know. I know turbos don't last long, thats about it.

Cheers, Kev

Antilag destroys turbos and can burn exhaust valves.
Igniting fuel/air while the exhaust valve is open, may sound cool, but unless you have a big budget to replace parts, it doesnt make a lot of sense.
You really need fully mappable injection/ignition to achieve it. It can be tamed down, but then it really doesnt do much good, so kind of defeats the purpose.

If you dont want lag, inject some nitrous off boost.

I know it kills turbos, but I still want it though. You know, you get your heart set on somin and thats it, you got to have it. I guess Ill just have to rig something up and see what works.
