Stripping down the 8 port I found out where the exhaust was blowing - cracks in the exhaust manifold

Is this just normal fatigue (had the manifold since 1998 ) or has the exhaust wrap made it worse?

Cheers

Neil

I'd say just normal cracks from the engine moving about, although the exhaust wrap looks to have made the corrosion to the pipe work a bit worse.

It will weld up OK though.

Id does indeed look like the exhaust wrap has made things worse. This is of no surprise really.

That looks quite rotten.

I'd say it's worth replacing, but I can't imagine the how sky high they are to buy.

Weld it then re-wrap it up and it'll look good as new.

Last year when I talked to maniflow at MITP they quoted £246 *oh well*

If I buy a new one I don't know if I'll bother to wrap it this time. Thinking of selling the engine so I might just knock 250 of the asking price.

exhaust wrap kills rolled steel, as its made of loads of layers all melted and rolled together at high temps.

whaen used in pipes and the exhaust wrap applied then its will deteriat like this if had loads of lcb's go like this but not n=maniflow ones , they must use a better quality unrolled steel tubing.,

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

neil, I had a whole custom stainless exhaust made for my mini, downpipe, elbow the lot, nice job, it was cheaper than that! go to a local custom exhaust place.

I agree with Jimster on this... You could get a titanium jobbie made for that price...

a LIL fishing village on the coast - Newcastle Upon Tyne

i would get it sandblasted (lightly) weld it up and then get it etched. i would also check the engine steadys and bushes as the split in the v is a sure sign of too much engine movement, engine rocking on its mounts. i have done the above on loads of lcbs with success, i never wrap them for the reasons disclosed.........just in case my 2 peneth was worth anything to ya
