this is my mk1 traveler bought for 250 euro ( 220 pounds) 2 years ago. it spend approximately 15 years at minimum to 20 years top on its side in a damp "garage" ( more like a barn) i'm second owner from new.
the right hand side needed stretching 17mm to get the door in.
(hope the link works)

it has had a "new" floor somwhere in its life and a remote gearbox ( with 850cc engine) instead of the magic wand. did need some straightening out though. i had tought about changing it back to correct spec but since the 1100 is remote to...

I'm looking at changing an Elf floor (whats left of it)to a later floor with larger tunnel for turbo exhaust and remote, just wondering if there is anything to watch out for.

a like that. as i looked into changing it back i was thinking on only cutting out the tunnel then weld a "lip" to the new tunnel so i can just weld it back to the floor that is in there.

hi all. as i am making up the brake and fuel pipes for the traveler i stumbled on a problem. it seems that 8 mm copper tube ( od, about 6mm id) is more available than the standard 6 mm tube. i would not mind placing a thicker 8 mm tube only i worry about 2 things.

1 will it fit the fuel tank ( with the screw on coupling or how would i make it fit.

2 will the fuel line not be to thick for the pump ( i have been thinking about things like not beeing able to cope with the bigger diameter and so not able to pull the fuel or something probably nothing to worry about)

as an extra i was wondering what the advantage would be of a small su or facet pump instead of the mecanical pump

http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/...k%20to%20search

it will be a standard 1100 cc engine with a single hif 38 carb .

greetings

the early cars ran an electric pump mounted to the rear frame. given originality is out the window, I'd fit a pump as you suggest

well it needs as original as posible but since it will be the car my wife is going to drive around from belgium to uk en ierland and so on i want it to be as reliable as possible. and i can easilie hide a pump that size near the subframe or so. but would like to know what the advantage would be. and if i could get away with 8 mm line's. greets.

You can get all kind of unions for those pumps to adjust to your requirements.
Not sure what bennefit it would give to be honest, I personally have never seen a mechanical pump fail..

I had a mechanical pump fail long time ago. Still don't know how it happend but has pumped fuel into the engine itself ( mixed with the oil) ruined all my rubber seals in an instant. Never had it since though.

So instead of cleaning the tank up and mounting it i ended up welding it. And the rust story goes on.

I'd advise that you run some petseal round the inside of that filler neck as it'll almost certainly have a few pin holes in the welds which will leak fuel vapour/liquid under the paint and cause it to bubble

I filled it with water and put some pressure on it. Didn't leak... what is pet seal?
