ok folks i took the elbow off the manifold on the turbo yesterday in order to port it out and remove any potential areas that may cause a bottle neck. when i took off the elbow i checked the fan in the main housing (not the garrett fan) i noticed there is a small amount of lateral play on the fan.............is this goosed ?

also on a spare turbo (this time the garret t3 fan) which i got throught the post with a load of bits i noticed oil in the cold air intake is this one naff too ??? are any of the said items cheap to repair (if repairable as i am aware they spin at some hellish speeds) do they need repairing or am i getting completely neurotic

When you say lateral which way do you mean?
Axial (E.g. in and out along the shaft centreline) or Radial (e.g. side-to-side at 90 deg to the shaft centreline?)

radial by about 1 - 1.5mm turbo unit is dry ie no oil.

Radial is not the end of the world, it is axial that equals a dead turbo. At least I think that is the right way round?

1 to 1.5mm sounds maybe slightly much, but is that an exact reading, or a guesstimate?
