IV been using this fella for the last few years http://turborepairuk.co.uk/turbo-repairs/ yes website is cheezy but every turbo has been perfect and he does have the proper balancing machines ( I visited his place as i was sceptical due to the cheapness) Last modern VNT turbo I gave him (08 320D)was turned around in 2 working days and just shy of £300.

If everyone local to you is quoting double that then it may be worth the hassle of postage etc.

turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

Same engine as my old A4, get it mapped they respond very well, more power and more economy, win-win.
Be very careful to put the proper PD spec engine oil in it, my mate bought my old one, didn't, and it lunched the cam.

Maybe upgrade the turbo at the same time. Sure I've read you can have the internals from the later 2.0 170 engines put into the earlier housings.

I want to keep my daily standard John, have to say so far i love it although it took along time to find one in the right colour with the right spec ect

Mine was up for £4500 with full dealer history and 90k, one owner with a folder of recipts for every thing even bulbs.

I paid just over 3k as the rear parking sensors did not work and the turbo had been off and cleaned so i knew there was a potential issue, parking sensor cost £15 to fix so even with a new turbo i feel i had a resonable deal.

Well seems my turbo is ok, started pulling the pipes off to get to it today and found the turbo in great condition, i pulled the egr off to find the butterfly had broken off jamming in and blocking the airflow of the egr, sadly my OEM replacement was so badly machined the pipes would not slot in it.

So a knackered egr gives the same symptoms as a knackered turbo, even fooled the RAC guy who collected me.
