After some recommendations, I've got either a 3.1 or a 3.44 CWP to choose from. What are most of you running on 10s with reasonable power?

I'm more swayed to the 3.1 as this will give a better cruising RPM. I'm looking at around 160bhp so would of thought it would pull of the line ok with the long ratio. I don't want to loose to much of the line though!

I've got an ST box so not far of clubman as follows...
2.583 1.711 1.250 1.000 Minispares (Clubman ratios CR/SC) C-STN39
2.544 1.731 1.258 1.000 Minispares (Abingdon ST ratios CR/SC) C-STN77

I think most people on 10's tend to go with the 2.9 because you've got the power to pull the taller gearing. In mine iv got a s/c c/r ratio clubman set i got off Oli with a 2.9 in it.

Go with the 3.1. I've got a 3.2 in mine on tens and is good.

running 13s here, tran x close ratio gearset. 3.1 FD, its ideal for road, hard work to get off the line but flies once its going. running 180 bhp, pulls right up to 8k and beyond. any lower and I would spend more time changing gears that anything else.

did run a 2.9 with 13s, same gearset, much less power, seemed to kill the revs ie had to change up at 5k.

Your car is NA tho isn't it? So you will want it to rev? Tbh i don't think its a question we can answer. It's a compromise.

3.1FD in my Clubman with SCCR clubman Gearset, 712kg. Works really well. The heavy RTS really seems to help pulling off. My Red turbo had 3.1FD and the ST Gearset, it was a nightmare with the X LITE lightweight clutch.

Cheers for all the answers guys, I'll go with the 3.1.

Slater, it's N/A at the moment but I'm building a turbo motor. It's actually got a 3.1 in it and pulls that easy, but it's a longer ratio standard gearbox.

Oh and I'll be building an RTS so that should help :).

Cheers again.

I'm using a 3.44:1

I really like it, unless driving on the motorway, when I absolutely hate it.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

There is a turbo gear set I saw once or twice with a short first for use with a long fd iirc it was close 3.44 first with a 3.1fd

Drives
-Ford S-max Mk2 Ecoboost
-Rover 100 VVC #2 - track project

That was a quaife gear set Paul. Not available anymore unless you get swifty to commission about ten sets!

I once did a trip from where I live to Bodensee area (wheere Germany, Austria, Switzerland borders meet) some 800km or so. It was a 998 Cooper engine with close ratio box and 3,44 diff, 10inch wheels.

It was a great fun to put 4th gear at around 50kph and watch the car pull whether it was flat or even up the hill, but... I spend enough time in the car to be 100% sure that every 15min trip on the highway will cause a huge headache :) Therefore I vote 3,1 as well :)

I found the 2.9FD brilliant with my helical Gearset, but fitted the 3.1 with the SCCR box as I was concerned about driving in traffic and having to slip the clutch to pull away.
