Quarry Bonk

Just pondering about gear ratios and whatnot, and I think I'd like a longer first gear in my own car once it's back on the road, i have a few things to choose from so I'd like to know the best combo of parts from you guys.
The engine should have around 90-95hp, be quite cammy (lumpy idle) 1.5 rockers, ported big valve head, 1275 or 1293cc that kinda thing. I have to choose from, a late carb model sprite gearbox with a 3.1FD or, a metro HLE gearset and a couple of 3.44 stuff floating around.
From experience what would you guys recommend?

imo the mini spares clubman set, or if you want to stay helical what ever ratios are closest
the clubman with a 3.2 was bang on imo

my choice if i had it again is 30/28 (0.933 ratio) HEL drop gears on the 1.3 HEL gearset and 3.2 FD

a close ratio set will give you a tall first.

Got a low mileage mk3 Helical close ratio cooper S gearset, build into an a+ box, sc drops, 4 pin, 3,4 final drive tucked away spare here. pm me if interested.

I had a 1293 with big valve head and 276 cam and I used clubman gearbox bits with a 3.44 diff. It was a real bastard to get going so good luck if you go anywhere near Merry Hill in it Carl. P.S it was set up by Hi Tech
