Picked up a Phase 2 Avonbar cam today, not a problem there, Although they had no timing discs, I have just ordered one. |

If you look carefully on both the cam and the crank pulley you will see a small mark, about 2 or 3mm diameter. These need to be lined up from the crank and cam with the chain installed in order to set the timing correctly.

There is a guide on how to do this in the "How To" section of this site. I did look in there first of all before posting and couldn't see anything, I have the timing disc, however I do not have the dial test indicator, The Avonbar cam differs to the standard timing (Obviously).
Here is a picture of the old camshaft end, Are you referring to the ridge just before the thread starts of a smaller mark? |

No. Get the pulley and you will see what I mean. Mini Haynes manual also tells you how to do it. Basic timing setting is NO different to standard. If you have a vernier pulley you can set full lift where you want it, if not you are stuck with what the two gears and chain provide! Ha Ha Ha, That is potentially the best news I have heard all day, Thank you. I know exactly what your talking about,

Thing is I am used to working on Ford Engines and normally the TDC is indicated on the pulley, However on the mini engine there is no mark (Unless its the little hole that is on the pulley?). The hole on the pulley is a result of balancing, nothing more. For starters they're not in the same place (obviously) on different pulleys and if taken to a decent balancer, they're not in the correct place either :) On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:
Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem. |
