Timing chain stretch/wear

Having done just a few hundred miles on a new duplex chain I've had to take the cover off due to an oil leak from the seal. While there I wanted to see how the cam timing had settled having only previously set it up accurately, and found it had retarded 2 degrees as many people have pointed out. Question is, as I'm now going to reset it with some decent advance. Are the chains known for stretching/wearing a lot more after the initial first few hundred miles or will my new setting likely remain much closer to it's setting?
