Hi all new here, currently have a my non turbo 1275 engine stripped, ready for a rebore and rebuild, can someone give me there thoughts on the cost of forced induction v's non turbo.

With a litttle research I am thinking that the rebuild cost will be similar, any thoughts ?

Hello.

Cost depends on spec, there are so many options, it would be impossible to put a price on it. One thing is for sure though - if you jump in without knowing where you're going it will cost more than it should.

My advice would be to continue to build a strong engine that you can use as a NA motor for now and can be converted to turbo later with minimal effort. Build a block with standard pistons (consider fitting oil jets), only +20 re-bore, a mild cam ( KC500, MD256, MD266 etc), cross pin diff. Then, when you're ready to go turbo, bolt on a cylinder head with larger chambers, manifolds, carb, turbo and some form of programmable electronic dizzy that will let you retard the ignition with boost.

The reason I say this is there is so much learning and part collecting to do that it could grind your engine build to a halt, and without a firm spec in mind you may well head off in the wrong direction and spend more time and money than you needed to.

Ok sound advice thanks, the only problem being if I'm not going to go turbo I dont want a mild cam, I'm at a cross roads yes or no, before I chuck a couple of grand away that I'll never see again !
Cross pin diff was thinking off anyway,

Well the build time on an engine is literally the same weather it bieng turbod or non turbod and it's the same for the internal components if you want fast na or fast turbo you need decent pistons! The difference in money is the extra ancillaries

I was thinking a turbo mini needed a moderate cam, but agree it's all down the dollar, and Pistons.
