hi all

so as for now i finally can get up the next step of building my turbo engine. i am going to use the metro engine ( was a na engine) i have ( only 30000 ish km on the clock) ill have it skimmed and honed in a few weeks.

will the standard camshaft be good?

but next up is what to get?

new cranck bearings ( standard size)?
new cranck trustwachers? but which ones? std 1275 or +30 or...?
primary gear shims?
big ends?

greets and thanks for the help.

Standard cam will work but may not be ideal. A mild NA cam like a MG metro cam works quite well.

Your bearing sizes all depends on your engine. You have to measure and work out what you need.

Sounds like you have some learning to do!

The engine is a mg metro engine and its the original cam so mg metro cam? And yes i have some learning to do. I have build some na engines but never on this level. ( i made it fit and they runned wel) but now i want it all to be perfect.( or as close to perfect that i can)

is this a good guide dvd i seen it once but been years ago. and to be honest i have the memorization of an elephant with amnesia ( seriously i tattooed the birth date of my daughter on my arm to remember it)

i read a few good seperate things what to do on here but a step by step guide would be nice. ( i do have both hayness books resto manuel and another one cant remember... and the tuning the a series engine book of david vizzard to )

i am handy with engines ( hense my winning 250cc racer 2 stroke) and did build some na engines in the past but never a turbo engine... they just make me nervous.

greets

Strip the engine and you'll be able to work out which bearings need replacing. Any research you do will make more sense when you have the parts in front of you, e.g. you'll know for sure which cam you have. At this point you'll have much more confidence, and learning will be easier.

A good starting point is always . If you make a list of everything you don't understand, it's just a matter of searching and learning. Don't buy any parts until your 100% sure about your spec.

You can build your engine with very few (or none) of the Metro Turbo parts. Parts like the old distributor you linked to may work, but there are usually better options these days.

Owkey. So been looking for the dry deck thing on here but methods seem to be divided some use bras plugs others use normal steel bolts with the heads cut of and so on. I have no lath and live in a metric country where unf taps are rare and expensive. What would be thee best methode to go for here? Do the normal steel bolts work? What loctite? I seen some use regular superglue?

My build thread page 6 has some pictures
Im not sure if the large holes in a 998 are the same size but it should be a starting point

Ill look for it.

so for the grub screws i have the choice between stainless steel and regular steel screws.

what would be best? the material of a mini engine has a expansion coefficient of 9.... the steel screw have a coefficient of 12 and the stainless steel screws have a coefficient of 16

i have seen that there are many types of materials used here but mostly brass witch has a coefficient of 18.4 but not the same hardness of course so can be pressed easier by the blok. what i am saying i guess is that i do realyse that ii need a material that expands well to make sure it closes up good but am afraid if use to hard of a material it will create cracks in the blok and head.

Steel will be fine. It's not that critical. Just loctite them in.
