Finally, we have a head!

Simon @ Morspeed and JF worked hard this afternoon on our head and manifolds.

So far we have:

The head, with 36mm inlet valves, 29mm ex valves. Chambers have been taken out by around 27cc, ports

matched to manifold, recut and opened out valve throats, lightly reshaped around valve guides, and

double valve springs. - roughly a stage 2 head I think. The 8 port isn't ours, unfortunatley *wink*

HCR Ported manifold - knife edged and matched to the head:

(original:

here)

HCR Ported elbow - almost 20% bigger!:

(compared to original: here)

Can't say thanks enough to Jon - the man - flanigan, and Simon Morson. They worked hard to get this

done for us, and it should turn our engine froma cheap budget motor, to a right little beasty!!

Thanks guys!!

Yes does look good mate and the work.

however don't mean to be negative about this but I can spot a problem with the Ex manifold, I've had a few come into my hands now and there do suffer from cracking where the 3 ports enter the turbo, on yours it seems that they have really opened it out and there seams to be very thin metal there, what with heat and all that, not good to help stop cracking.

don't want to alarm you just wanted to tell you before it's to late.

It is only the very edge that is thin with the inter material vertualy left as it was.The "down to the metal" finish was only a very light brushing to removed all that scale that builds up, you would not want a chunk of that flying through your turbo at full boost.

I to have seen cracks in this area,on my own manifold included. Although my manifold was cracked before i modified it. Mine has survived the test of time.

I was advised of the knife edging by a a very well recognised turbo specialist and have used it on many manifolds with success.

The manifold was matched to the gasket, i just blend it in about 40mm down the bores. You do not want to open them up loads or the gasses will slow down before the turbo marginally.

The head is then matched to the same gasket so all matches nicely not impeeding flow.

do the ports follow the same line down to the throat of the port underneath the valve or have you just blended the port near the exit towaards the manifold if you get my drift.

also that chamber shapes looks sexy, that seems to be the normal shape now for turbo heads.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

i think i get your drift...

on the head the manifold faces have been matched to fit he gasket, as have the exhaust manifold.

The valve guide on that haed has just been "cleaned up", remember it is a budget head with reliablity in mind, so lots of metal to disipate heat where it is needed.

PS HOGSTER..is your car blue with a fip front?..if so saw it art MITP on the "pheonix" club stand....

yes mate but couldnt find yours saw turbo phils and that was about it i reconised.

thanks for the info most helpfull.

my head has a 31 cc on number 1 and 4 2 and 3 are 32 (thats before skimming) to help stop detonation (well thats the theory) dont no if thats to big for a 1380 running on 15psi but that gives me 8.2 :1 cr.

but i will tickle the ports like you said as all i done was to remove the boss and smoothed out the ports rather than making them bigger.

so what did you think to the hog she is a bit scrathed now plus a big of a crack on the off side when i reversed into the wifes rover ooppps.

the instalation isnt to bad as ive seen worse.

sying that i did see yours as it was the yellow one with the noz on the inlet to the plenum and with a air temp sensor in the plenum.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas
