So finally got round got round to getting a turbo. Went for a gt1752 from uk diesel parts but it had the gt1752s written on it so hopefully that will be ok.

Also the manifold and the turbo have threads where the two connect so not sure what to do, do i just drill out the threads on the turbo? Also the hole in the manifold is smaller than the one on the turbo, will that be an issue? Thanks

ALso need to get some studs etc to fit them

Another thing whats the best material to make the bracket to move the actuator around?

They’re both tapped as the manifolds are so tight in a couple of places it’s easier to have studs on the manifold rather than exhaust. It’s pretty self explanatory when you hold the two together which ones to drill straight through.

Hole size shouldn’t matter to much.

Ah ok thanks for that. I just didn’t want to go drilling a brand new turbo when I shouldn’t. Ah that’s good then. Thank you!

So today i set about painting the engine, got my brother to do all the masking. but he wanted me to paint it:

So this is it currently, put the second coat of primer on and its still not dry, baring in mind the first coat went on at 1400.

Im hoping i can put two colour coats and the top coats on this evening but stuff knows if i'll be able to because its taking so long to dry. Will post some more news later

Easy, its Grey!

Ps, chuck some new core plugs in it when you've painted it, for the cost its worth it. Will make it look new.

Ah thats a good idea!
Having a right mare the primer is taking ages to dry, ive blown an extention lead and tripped the garage electrics

So as this is my brothers car he chose the colour, he wanted something different and this is it. Very very unique. Got to put a few more coats on which should make it darker, well i hope so anyway.

So i bought a throttle lever for a hif 44 turnes out its on the wrong side as its for an NA carb, but i cant for the life of me find one for a turbo carb, does anyone know where i can get one?

So bought an intake adaptor from specialist components which arrived today, i honestly dont get how they can charge £6.50 for postage for such a small item!!
Also you can see the wrong linkage in the top of the photo:

So I got injured playing rugby last weekend, so havnt been able to do much, i can only stand for a bit before my leg starts swelling again which is annoying, its a bit better now, so ive been able to go out and put some stuff together, loads more motivation now.
I must admit i'm happy with how the engine is looking

So a to do list, with things off the top of my head:
Modify turbo so i can put the 4th manifold stud and nut on, already drilled out the turbo threads, just need to grind.
Rotate turbo and make a bracket to relocate the actuator.
Find a place to put the fuel pressure regulator, then plumb in fuel return.
Fit trigger wheel and sensor.
Put radiator and other cooling system parts on, and paint some of them.
Buy some adjustable engine steadies.
Buy a lambda sensor and gauge.
Still looking for a throttle linkage for this.
Dont think theres much more before we can put the engine in. My biggest worry is sorting out the megajolt

The megajolt isn’t anything difficult, from memory Nic wrote a very helpfull how too many years ago, a quick search should turn it up.

So i finally managed to get the trigger wheel on and hopefully in the right place. It took ages as i was struggling to keep it at tdc and the trigger wheel kept spinning but finally got it up to Torque. Also put some parts back on, they let the engine down, my brother said he didn't want to paint them.

I then set about modifying the NA HIF 44 linkage, so i basically chopped it up, then ground some more off as it didn't clear:

Then i managed to use the earth clamp to hold it together:

Then welded it all up, went completly over kill, spent ages grinding it up:

At that point the tressle was fowling so i had to sqeeze the end together and put it back in the other way, i hope it holds as some of the flange broke off:

Then i primered it up and then painted it so it hopefully stays protected and this is the final thing

Just need to finish building the carb up, put another layer of paint on the radiator, grind the turbo which im bricking it about. Then put the rest of the stuff on the engine and hopefully put it in the car tomorrow!

So as everyone knows, nothing ever goes to plan, so the engine is still not in, still been busy putting it all together though.
I managed top get the turbo ground back so i could mount it to the turbo, this took ages as i was petrified of grinding too much off, but it seems ok:

So my first issue was the actuator bracket fowled on the manifold when i tried getting it to a good position, so im either going to have to cut of the mounting point and make it some other way and attatch it somewhere else, or just try grind off a bit, ive taken the cold side off to show where i think it should be, any advice would be appreciated:

I've also put all the carb together and fixed it to the manifold for good, ive got an issue with fitting the plenum, as the bolts that hold it to the carb arn't long enough and thats without a gasket, only a couple of the threads go through.

Cleaned up the radiator cowling and gave it a paint:

I then went onto ftiiting the radiator, alternator etc, when fixing the raidiator mounting bracket it slighty pushed on the trigger wheel sensor bracket, pushing it further away so i had to re shim it, that wasnt a bad thing as i had to take it off in order to get the fan belt on.
It took ages to fit the cowling to the radiator as i had to cut up each bolt and re thread/tidy the ends up, but got that done eventually.

i took off the actuator bracket on mine, im gonna go for something similar to Jonnys on here. You have to extened the actuator rod though

Ah right, guess i'll have to do that then, means making a simple bracket goes out the window *oh well*

Simple Was me just cutting out some sheet bending it a bit. Drilling some holes then painting it, and just bolting it to the current bracket and the actuator, going to have to find another way of fixing it to the turbo

So i bit the bullet and chopped of the mounting point, now i can spin the turbo and get it in a nice place, need to buy some thinner sheet metal to make the bracket out of:

Put it on the engine and put the inlet etc on to see how it all lined up, it isnt half fidly getting all the nuts on to hold the inlet manifold on, i need thinner hands:

Was lacking motivation so put the intercooler and pipes on to try and get some more, it worked a little haha, taken it all off again now:

I bought e full length of braided line for the fuel return, but thinking about it i might get some solid pipe to go under the car as it may mean i can use the mounting brakets already on the car so i dont have to drill anymore holes.
