Yeah I wouldn't have thought about that unless he said

So i had my first day off for over a month haha but anyway we don't want to strip it all down until after IMM, but we've started to build up the new engine, well we've painted it haha. Started to build up the straight cut box but my brother broke a spring for the syncro mesh so he needs to buy some more before we can go further.

We've painted the engine the same pink but this time it's metallic so looks a bit less bland. The pictures dont do it justice:

If im not mistaken, pots are matched pair so if you split it that might be your issue. Swapped over by mistake.

Thank you. It’s the actual drive shaft that won’t go into the pot joint. It’s half way into the pot. I think I may have to split the pot joint as we didn’t actually do that before putting it in

Try a new circlip on the end of the drive shaft. Old one might be worn and enlarged

Thank you. It seemed ok but maybe it’s worth giving it a go just to see

Thank you. Yeah the weather is awful, makes working on the car a right pain

So i've been away working in New Zealand, ended up getting stuck there, had two flights cancelled, probably wont be getting my money back for them then finally got on the third flight two weeks later, which was an extortionate price, but got me home, so that's loads of my mini fund gone.

Anyway got back, didn't even get a change to unpack, sorted out the drive shafts, some piping and some other random bits, got it started, bedded in the cam, then took it for a test drive, up a private road i must add, to check we'd assembled the gear box etc properly, now just got to wait for the end on the lock down to go get it set up properly.

Went for a drive down a farmers track to check the gears still worked after fitting the KAD quick shifter:

Out of curiosity how did you find the shifter? I just unceremoniously removed mine, absolutely loathed it?

It’s different that’s for sure. Think we need to wait till we can take it for a proper drive before passing judgment on whether to leave it in or not, it’s a lot of money to fit then take out if it’s rubbish ahah

For me it may well of been more the first drive in the car for ten years and too many years of modern refined motoring?
I may put mine back in after I’ve ran the engine in, mapped it and ironed out any teething issues.

That could be it. Going from a modern car to a mini really makes the mini feel inadequate 🤣
We didn’t want to put the quick shift in till we tried the gear box etc with the normal gear stick just to make sure we knew it worked.
