I've just checked my build receipts and yes the cam bearings were replaced.

I did check that the face of the bearing was flush to the block when we were trying to work out what was happening with the original standard pump. I was worried it was proud of the block, but no it is flush.

cheers Carl; I was starting to wonder if I was off on a wrong path. Clearly there is some substance in our findings

I've never had any particular issue with Minispares before and I'm hoping they will continue to shine bright amongst this issue. Anyone any idea how long they usually take to respond to an email? I don't want to be pushy with them yet but I want to get this sorted asap

I've now got hold of some engineers blue so will try this on mine to see what the results are

I've just spoken to minispares.
They acknowledge receipt of Robs email (asked me if I had sent it) and then asked me to also email with the issue.
They have already contacted the manufacturer, but so far no feed back.
Also, they have no stock of the pumps, as the manufacturer has them all.
They said for each person with the issue, they need individual correspondence.

Makes me happy that I have an ancient NOS power-flow pump from Avonbar in my engine.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Ian is just checking his stock for me now. He is also measuring the ports for comparison.
Its either that or I go back to a standard 1275 oil pump.

In the mean time, I have also emailed Simon at Minispares regarding the issue, as he requested earlier today and we had a phone call on the back of my email.
He has assured me they are actively working on it with the supplier, but it will take time.

Not being the most patient of people, I asked him for the dimensions on the S Evolution pump and he has measure it and come back with 49.07mm between ports.
The conversation ended with Minispares graciously sending me out an S Evolution pump on overnight, so that I can get my Engine back together tomorrow and hopefully get oil pressure back.

A pricey alternative....

For the sake of the debate, before you fit it, can you photo the back of all three (I think you still have a standard 1275 as well as the turbo version ?) either together or independantly (but all 3 in the same sort of photo size) to give us a visual comparison.

Thats a bad do really.

Rob I think you should be due definitely a new oil pump FOC but I also think you have a reasonable claim on the appropriate gaskets to reassemble it as well, seeing as you've now stripped it twice looking for this fault.

All noted. I've not chased it again since this morning as I want to do more checking to back up and provide MS with more info to support their discussions with the supplier as well

That is a seriously fucked up design.

I can't believe MiniSpares weren't aware of it and have been selling these pumps as fit for purpose.

I'm fairly certain now I have one of them, just getting away with it because of a much thinner non-OEM gasket.

I'll pull mine this weekend to see.

Can't believe either Gavin or Simon (@ minispares) haven't joined in on this thread.

I have a high capacity bnib oil pump from a few years ago, also a new spider drive from either late last year or early this year, better check the measurements on them both just to be safe....

Clearly there is an issue here however i don't want to go mud slinging. MS are looking at the issue at the moment and i'm happy with their attention to date.

My old 'turbo' oil pump comes out at 40.14mm across ports, and my spider drive pump a respectable 43.07mm. Looks like my high capacity pump from a few years ago is also bin fodder? Its in an Autopumps UK box.

Generally they seem to sell stuff that is fit for purpose, and have resolved quality issues in the past. How the manufacturer cannot copy a simple pump that has been around for decades is anyones guess though.

Thats interesting that the ports on the turbo unit are similar. Does anyone have a genuine original pump to had that we could get a measurement from as comparison?
