Interesting. But what's wrong with the standard reverse lock out?

I've never had a problem myself, but have heard some grumblings that remotes are too easy to get into the reverse gate...
Definitely not needed on a rod change though IMO.

Eh? Now I'm very confused *oh well*
I thought there were only two types of gear-change: Late type rod-change (hole close to the cross-beam), and early type remote (hole by the bulkhead). Am I missing something?

Remote and rod change both come out of the tunnel near the cross member, the rod as the name suggests has two rods forwards to the gearbox, the remote has a large alloy housing that attaches to the gearbox and runs back in the tunnel. Magic wand was early cars only, remote change from the 60's till the early 70's (?) then rod from then on.

its even more complicated that that too....

theres a second type of remote box with a longer remote from Austin 1100/1300's, its got a rubber sandwich plate between the remote and box.

and also there was a moke box which was a remote box with a different style of magic wand...

LOL!!

Moke box
