I need some decent brake pads for the Nimbus for a track day (but also for use on the road). Carbon metalics are a no go on price and I can't find any that fit anyway.

The choice is Mintex 1144s or EBC yellow stuff.

Having used 1144s before I found them a tad shit when cold. EBC green stuff are total shit, but are the yellow stuff any better?

Any other advice for pads around the £30 mark?

I'm off to Blyton for the Mk1 performance mini day. Anyone else going?

I run the 1144 and they are squeaky but the car seems to stop well.? The ds3000 have a good name but they are expensive. I wouldn't trust EBC after running the green stuff however, when I ran the fiesta brakes I used ferodo premium pads they were also good on the track at coombe. I will say I have seen you drive and you will drive quicker than me,

I did want to go the the mk1 day after missing out last year but I didn't book it as I never thought I would have the car ready but it's all in one bit now, I guess it's too late to book now

I would never run ebc pads again, total shite, both on my 106 and clubman they fell apart.

+1 the rivets fell out of the EBC set I had that held the clips(fiesta setup), they got red hot and I had brake fade, everything went back to normal when I switched out to the ferodo premium.

It's not too late Graham - there are track places available for both days.
I've had to pull out due to other commitments, I have a room booked in a local Premier Inn for the Sarurday night going spare

Blyton is next weekend, check here for details http://mk1-forum.net/viewforum.php?f=23&si...b6f4e18a5559b7d

As for my brake set up. It's a Viva front end with the standard Viva AP calipers.

It just so happens that the pads are the same pattern as the later 8.4" mini ones.

Standard pads are ok for the road or hillclimbing, but no good for me on a track day.

The yellows are good, use them in the VTEC Metro, lots of people (myself included) who wont touch the greens rate the yellow's highly.

You won't go wrong with 1144's. 1155 or DS2500 are also good pads but on a light car 1144's should be plenty good enough.

Have you heard or ever run black diamond pads. There are a few guys I know saying good things about them on thier fast road cars but I've no experience myself. ???

Thread revival. I have purchased some black diamond pads for me car. They are advertised as fast road/track. I have been recommended to use them from a friend and thought id give them a go. Ill report back on how good / bad they are in the near future. If I never post a response again, take it that they are crap and didn't work!

Well the 1144s held on better than a standard pad, but they still faded.

My next plan is to remove the disk shields to help cooling. They were always a problem on the mini, but never thought of it on the Nimbus.

I can't run 4pots or a vented disc on my Mini because of my wheel choice so I am stuck with the stock S calipers. To improve things I run an aftermarket S disc and some 1144s. For daily driving plus a bit of spirted use they work well but I cooked them a few times. I thought for rebuild number 2 I'd run the EBC Redstuff. So far so good, a bit of dust but happy so far. Apparently they are similar compound to DS2500s?
